Take the company’s latest diversification effort, for example. Led by Kandefer’s son-in-law, Joe Blahowicz, the company — based in West Seneca, N.Y. — is pushing hard to establish its maintenance services division as a regional player in hydroexcavating, pipeline inspections and municipal sewer cleaning.
